Chloroform
Trichloromethane or Theophania Martin
Chloroform is one of the main characters of Chemical Culture. She is known for her long-lived career as an anaesthetist and surgeon, but she currently works in a forensics laboratory with Phenol and does biological researches. As of 2023, she is 192 or 193 years old. She is American-German-French and very fluent in many languages. Her siblings are Methyl Chloride, Methylene Chloride and Carbon Tetrachloride. Many Chemicals are mentioned as Chloroform's parents, most notable being the narcotic Chloral.
Personality
Chloroform is very calm, kind and friendly, she is nice to talk with. Chloroform never gets angry since she is unable to feel anger. She is deeply ashamed of her own history and what humans associate her with. She hates being labelled as a criminal for killing humans or even being praised for the lives she has saved. She does not want to be considered as a "pioneer" in anaesthesia which she never wanted to do at all. Because of her bad reputation, she never liked the name "Chloroform" especially after the 1920s, she prefers to be called "Trichloromethane" ("TCM" for short). She has never kidnapped someone in her life. Chloroform prefers staying in the dark to protect herself from sunlight which is harmful to her.
Chloroform treated Dichloromethane and Carbon Tetrachloride like her friends. She is neutral towards Chloromethane and never talks to him unless it is necessary. She often talks with other Organochlorides, Trichloroethylene is her friend.
Appearance
Chloroform is a pale-skinned woman with dark red eyes typical to Organochlorides and two-coloured hair. Her hair is naturally 3/4 dark blue and 1/4 light pink, this colour ratio represents the ratio of hydrogen to chlorine in her molecule. She loves braiding her hair. She is 173 centimetres tall, making her the shortest among the Chloromethanes. Chloroform dresses simple and modest. She likes light colours. She goes outside always with a parasol and very dark sunglasses to protect herself from the sunlight.
Family and relationships
Chloroform has three siblings of other Chloromethanes. Chloroform has multiple parents, which is very normal for Chemicals. Her parents are Sodium Hypochlorite with Ethanol and/or Acetone, Methane or her brother Dichloromethane with the god Chlorine, Chloral, Trichloroacetic Acid. Phosgene, who is listed as her one of offsprings, has more parents than Chloroform. Chloroform's offsprings from Hydrofluoric Acid include famous fluorine refrigeration consultants. Chloroform's children Dichlorofluoromethane (in 2015) and Bromochlorodifluoromethane (in 2009) were executed for "crimes against the ozone layer".
She is a year older than her father Chloral who fully supported her work in anaesthesia.
Chloroform trained Trichloroethylene for obstetrical anaesthesiology. Chloroform found her "too old" because she had gotten into anaesthesia at 16 (1847) while Trichloroethylene was 100 years old. Chloroform is 5 years older than Trichloroethylene.
History
Chloroform was first seen in 1830 or 1831 in Western Europe. First thing she was ever told was that she was tasty. She was named "Chloroform" in 1834-35. Her anaesthetic potential was coincidentally discovered by three men who invited her when they were having fun with random Chemicals that they brought to home, she ended up knocking them out.
She started working as an anaesthetist in 1848. In her first years, she was labelled as anti-Christian because Chloroform helped women in labour. Chloroform was loved by Queen Victoria of England for helping her pain during childbirth, after the Queen's approval, Chloroform became even more famous everywhere.
Many other people opposed her work but it was about safety this time, Chloroform's work was dangerous and had caused deaths of many patients. Surgeons who opposed Chloroform, supported Ether who was more "gentle" in anaesthesia and did not cause deaths, yet Ether could get aggressive and set things on fire or was too weak in anaesthesia. Despite the opposition Chloroform faced, her fame grew worldwide because of her strength. She went to wars as a nurse/surgeon where she helped many people. She held no sides in wars and did surgeries on injured soldiers without any political judgement. Humans praised her because Chloroform had successfully drastically decreased the fatality rates in various surgeries by allowing surgeons work longer.
After the 1960s, being accused of many deaths, Chloroform was forced to retire from anaesthesia and replaced by younger anaesthetists such as Trichloroethylene and Halothane. Ether voluntarily retired years after Chloroform. Unlike other Organochlorides, Chloroform did not seek for a new job after retirement. She had a short career in refrigeration and worked in a dry-cleaner for an unknown time.
